President’s message (November 2023)

I think we deserve a rest!! It has been a season of packages and nucs, splitting and swarming, mite counting and treating, prepping the hives for winter, extracting and bottling, rendering wax – and it makes me tired just writing about it!! I’ve just finished extracting and jarring my fall honey, and have (mostly) cleaned up all the sticky spots in the house. There’s always one more sticky spot. My wife always finds one…

So now that this season is over, it’s time to kick back with a good cup of coffee, tea, or other beverage. And kicking back is exactly what our November meeting is all about. Come and join us for the Annual Club Social this coming Thursday. There will be no presentations; it is a time to get together with fellow beekeepers, share your successes and your tribulations, pose questions, or talk about anything else but beekeeping!

Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. We hope to see you there!!

Our first 2024 meeting will be January 11th – second Thursday of each month. And it’s also time to start planning for next year. Do you have subjects that you want us to cover in our upcoming meetings? What equipment to get? How to split a hive? Walk-away splits, Brood Break Splits, Taranov splits? Or talk about boards? Cloake Boards, Snelgrove Boards, Valsalva Boards? Something more basic? Something more advanced?

If you have any requests for subject material for our meetings, please email me at president@capitalregionbeekeepers.ca and we will happily oblige!!

So until then, enjoy your rest until next season begins!
