Our November gathering has always been a social one and even though things are slowly improving it is best that we do not meet in person. The second Thursday of this month also happens to be Remembrance Day so we will delay our meeting by one week and meet on-line on Thursday, November 18th at 7:00pm. We will send you the Zoom link closer to the date and will make sure we can go longer than 45 minutes so we can get to everyone’s questions and ideas.
November and December will pass very quickly, and we will soon be contemplating another bee season and all that it entails. Renewal is important. Some hives will emerge to carry on and some will be empty by the new year, with keepers asking about the next shipment of packages and nucs.
The club itself will need to renew as well. Six years ago, I was a member with two bee seasons under my belt and our president at the time had to step down unexpectedly. I became the president and learned just how many talented members in our club are willing to help when asked. Six years, three grandchildren and one heart attack later I have completed two more terms than our by-laws suggest, and it is time to step aside and let new people and ideas go forward.
Carolyn Hissen will need to vacate her position as First VP so that she can lead the establishment of a new school. Simon Lightbody will complete his two-year term as Secretary, and we will need someone to oversee the Outyards as Brad Alexander steps away from that role. I am sure there are other people who will gladly accept assistance in their roles in the club. Please take a look at our website which has a short summary for each role, and I hope you will consider helping out with the club exec.
We now have a couple of potential sites for club meetings and we will be able to confirm a new location for our January meeting. Yay!
