Spend your Sunday at the farm learning about pollinators, enjoying great food and drink, and supporting local pollinator initiatives!
Worldwide, roughly 1,000 plants grown for food, beverages, fibers, spices, and medicines need to be pollinated in order to produce the goods on which we depend. Learn about local pollinator issues and how you can help at this series of talks by local experts and business owners. Merridale will also have pollinator-focussed brunch and drink specials on offer for those who would like to indulge!
Special Guests
Lora Morandin, Ph.D., Western Canada Program Manager for Pollinator Partnership Canada
Lora will teach us about the local pollinators who help our food crops grow, and how we can help them thrive. She’ll also have a fun contest with prizes, and handouts to take home!
Joanne Gorle of Bee Sharp Honey
Joanne will show us the honey bee colonies that she keeps at Merridale and that feed off the apple blossoms and wildflowers on the farm. She’ll also talk about her experiences working with bees on Vancouver Island.
Rick Pipes of Merridale Cidery & Distillery
Rick will bring us into the Merridale distillery for a glimpse at his artisan distilling operation, and will speak about the use of honey in Merridale’s products. Adults will have the opportunity to try a sip of the honey-infused Cyser cider.
Registration is highly recommended for this event, as space is limited. Click here to register online! Registration is $10 for adults and includes a sample of Cyser cider. Kids age 9 and younger are free, and age 10 to 18 are $5, with all proceeds going to Pollinator Partnership Canada. This money will be used to support Pollinator Partnership’s new local group, Island Pollinator Initiative, a coalition group created to facilitate collaboration, event and information sharing, outreach, and action to promote protection of native and managed pollinators on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands.
Merridale will also have pollinator-focussed brunch and drink specials on offer in its gastropub and tasting bar. Request your brunch reservation when you complete your registration, and you’ll receive a coupon for $2 off our special Pollinator Brunch menu item!
