The Capital Regional Beekeepers Association (CRBA) meets on the second Thursday of every month.
This meeting usually starts with a beginners/intermediate beekeeper corner 30 minutes before the regular club proceedings start around 7pm.
Bill Fosdick called the meeting to order at 7:30PM – Mites are the topic for the evening.
Don Lambert – explained to the members how he interrupts the mite cycle. Brood – Break – Split. This method broke the mite cycle and the mite count dropped dramatically.
Irene Tiampo spoke to the members on what a honey judge looks for in the entry.
Bob Liptrot spoke about the Sooke Fall Fair.
Larry Lindahl – what is happening in the hive this month and September. The queen is slowing down egg production. See if she is failing, mite treatment – sugar shake. Keep weeds down around the hives. Check for robbing, put in an entrance reducer due to the wasps. Check to see if the hive has enough supplies for the winter, do they need feeding.
Swarm Committee – Michelle reported that the committee had 80 calls, 36 were bumblebees, 39 were honeybees (11 got away), 2 information calls and 9 wasp calls.
Bill informed the members that Bill Spriggs has passed away. He was an old member and once was the “Drug Guy.” His celebration of life is to be held September 29th, 2-4PM at the Mary Winspear.
Shirley Richardson – asked the members to donate any old veils that could be sent Jamaica.
Outyard – it has been reported that it has been a light honey year.
