Executive Meeting (March 2018)

March 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Minutes

Attending: Bill F, Nairn H, Alanna M, Rupert R, Irene T, Tara B, Carolyn H and Kimberley B

Bill called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.

Each attendee introduced themselves to our new membership secretary, Kimberley B.

First vice president position still vacant.
Don Lambert volunteered to take the position (though he works shift work). Bill Braithwith has volunteered to be Don’s backup.

Second vice president – Carolyn Hissen – her main focus will be getting the small groups up and
running.

April Agenda – Tara informed the executive that the speaker, Linda, who was going to speak about the beekeeping in Africa with the pygmies has another engagement but would be able to speak at another meeting. Alternative speaker could be Bob Liptrot, to speak about breeding and rearing queens.

Swarm control – splitting colonies. Alanna thought that Rosemary Ishkanian, the willow lady, would be another good speaker.

Discussion was had about the online purchasing of membership. Rupert reported that 5 members have signed up for membership. This is still in its infancy, a work in progress.

BeeLine – “Should the BeeLine have more content?” – Interesting articles could be inserted from Bee Culture. For the members who cannot attend meetings to have slides from the speakers available on line.

Iotron – New date April 12th
Proposal should the club subsidize part of the costs? Rupert will have a float available for Alanna to provide lunches and gas money for the trip. A reminder will be sent out to the membership to get their equipment ready.

Conference Plans – the executive brought up the idea of having a point person for handling the requests for the silent auction. Ask the members to each look for items from their contacts in Victoria. (Baskets of products to feature the provider advertising at the conference).

Nairn will be speaking to an audience of about 100 at the HPC May 5th. She would like to be able to use a power point.

Frances King Demonstration Hive needs a volunteer to take care of it. Nairn volunteered but needs some training in what and how to take care of the hive. Alanna will meet with her at Frances King nature house to explain the system.

What to do with all the accumulation of “stuff” for the CRBA? We should look through the boxes and see whether Dr. Boone, who is charge of the SFU archives for the Bee Clubs could have entered into the Archive.

Bill F thanked Rupert for getting the books into great order so the 2 members who volunteered to oversee the “audit” of the club’s finances could understand what was going on.

Meeting adjourned at 8:48pm.
