Executive Meeting (June 2019)

Minutes

Present: Bill Fosdick, Carolyn Hissen, Nairn Hollott and Barry Denluck

Meeting called to order at 7:10 PM

Outyards. 84 tags are spoken for. 2 have been paid for but not yet delivered. 6 people bought 5 tags each. Next year we might need to limit the number of tags per person so more people can go to the outyards. Brad will go to the outyards this weekend to check them and decide when to take hives up. It may be earlier this year. There will be a work party the weekend after. Brad will check the batteries – they may need recharging or replacing. He will need to purchase a hedge trimmer and lock box for the entrance key.

Proposal by Barry. The proposal is to promote better beekeeping on the South Vancouver Island by funding small research projects. A committee would be formed to decide which project proposals would be funded. There was agreement that the idea was worthwhile. Bill will put together a proposal to be sent to the executive for a vote.

July meeting. Bob Liptrot will present. The topic is bee projects in Sri Lanka.

August meeting. Topics will be bee products and preparing entries for the fall fairs. There will stations.

Swarms. There was lull in calls in late May and early June but calls have increased since then.

New Beekeeper Corner in July. Topics will be what to do after a swarm, what to look for in the hive, do you need to feed, should you harvest?

Pollen patties. It was agreed to lower the price per pattie to $3.00.

Bill noted that tea and coffee at the meeting is not much used.
