Executive Meeting (July 2017)

Executive Meeting – July 17, 2017
1902 High Park Place – 7:00 PM

Attending: Bill F, Irene T, Bob W, Nairn H, Rupert R, Michelle S, Barry D and Tara B

Bill called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. A quorum was met.

August Meeting

Bill has invited Iain Glass to speak to the members on his topic “Adaptive Beekeeping for Changing Times”. This will be an hour presentation. Bill F will see about transportation to Victoria (Harbour Air). Irene T will see about accommodation in Victoria (Union Club).

September Meeting

Emphasis will be on feeding the hive, controlling humidity, ventilating, location of hive for the winter and protection from the wind.

Awarding the ribbons from the Saanich and Sooke Fairs.

October Meeting

Making sure the hive is ready for the winter

• enough stores to see hive through the winter
• winter protection in place

Small Group Survey

• members still want mentors
• are the members willing to share their email with other members in your area?

Executive are setting up a map of different areas to have members in that area able to see and have those who would like to meet as smaller groups sign up in their area. Barry D volunteered to be the point for the View Royal area.

Permits for Bee Sales

Wendi Gilson has brought it to the attention of the executive, if members are selling bees, they must have the hive inspected and receive a permit to sell the bees from the Provincial bee inspector in their area.

2018 Conference – BCHPA Annual General Meeting

Barry D and Bill F toured the Union Club facilities and the Magnolia Hotel next to the Union Club. Barry D has one quote for the venue and hotel and now is going to get a second quote from the Laurel Point Hotel.

Outyards

Werner G will speak to the beekeeper that has issues with the club members being up at the Outyards.

Field Days

Tara B is now having members sign up to have field days at their beeyards.

New Beekeepers Corner

Barry D: Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Special Inspection of the hive and what to look for when
inspecting.
