Minutes
Attending: Bill Fosdick, Carolyn Hissen, Lisa Redding, Jody Aylard, Irene Tiampo, Nairn Hollott, Joanne Davidson, Alanna Morbin and Tara Beninger.
Bill Fosdick called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
- Annual General Meeting – February
Have each committee recap what has been accomplished during the past year. This then could be used to give to prospective new members to show what our club does. Library to list new titles, subscriptions. Education committee to list members and describe notable events. Swarm committee to list members and events. Outyard members and the number of hives that used the outyards. Top Bar and Warre Hives, hive numbers and mention events held. Fairs and Festivals (Saanich, Luxton, Sooke and Seedy Saturday).
- Financial Reports
Joanne reported that she has asked Rupert to go over and critique the financials for her before presenting to the membership. She explained that she has cancelled the cheque payable in the amount of $250 to Innovative Communities Organization (Rwanda). This cheque is now stale dated. John Jordan is away and will be contacted when he returns about this cheque.

- BeeLine
Peter Day is stepping down as the editor of the BeeLine – Bill will check with Peter as to the scope of putting the BeeLine together, how much time is involved and the deadline dates.
- Web Committee
Tim Humphries has volunteered to help with the web site. The issue with the web site is the program JUMA. The web site needs an extensive overhaul.
- Net Talk
Jody Aylard informed the executive that the service provider for the 1-900 swarm line is now out of service. Jody will investigate whether we should get a new telephone number.
- Benchmark.com
Bill has been investigating using this vehicle as a means of distributing information to the membership.
- Constitution Committee – Chairperson – Lisa Redding, Sharon Bolton, Irene Tiampo, Bill Fosdick and Katie Draeger. First meeting will be February 1st.
The executive discussed what the committee should be looking at within the document.
- Club Recognition at the February Meeting
Bill would like the executive to recognise certain members for their contribution to the club.
- Iotron
Bill has a coupon for the Iotron that was purchased at the BCHPA’s 2015 AGM in Comox. It is for 42 hives worth $122.00. The Iotron visit should be in the last week of February and/or the first week of March. Jim Henry and Don Lambert have volunteered to do the trip. A suggestion from one of the executive was to have the club pay for 5 boxes for each of the volunteers and a Tim Horton’s gift certificate.
- Imacloprid information
There will be a paper released on January 18th. Catherine Culley will give her overview of this paper.
- Calendar
Bill Fosdick sent the executive a calendar of events to be held through the year.
- Identifying Disease Seminar is to be held February 27th from 9 am to 2 pm in the St. Aidan upper hall. The seminar will be put on by Wendi Gilson and Bill Fosdick. The cost of the rental of the hall is $175.00 per day which the club will sponsor. The participants will be asked to pay $5.00 to attend.
A motion was made by Jody Aylard to spend $175.00 to use the upper hall at St. Aidan’s Church, February 27th, to host the Identifying Disease Seminar, seconded by Joanne Davidson. Motion carried.
- Other business
Carolyn Hissen informed the executive that the Hartland Landfill license has expired and wanted to know whether she should renew it. (This is for the disposal of infected bee equipment in the Hartland Landfill). Carolyn and Wendi Gilson have been using the same license. Carolyn will ask Wendi whether she, as the Bee Inspector for the South Island, should take the license out instead.
