President’s message (October 2025)

Well, the majority of the hubbub is over, and things are settling down as the season ends. While 2025 wasn’t the best season for many of us, it wasn’t the worst either. By now your honey has been harvested and likely extracted, and there’s nothing like seeing – and tasting – the fruit of our labours to know that the effort put in was worth it!

But now it’s time to start focusing on winter preparation; adding 2:1 syrup, making up some fondant or sugar cake, reducing your number of boxes per hive, adding a spacer for feeding, getting your quilt boxes and insulation ready. Don Lambert will be talking about these at the Beginners’ Corner this week!

And for the main presentation Brendan Begley will be presenting on Queen Rearing. Not the right time of year to raise queens, but knowing what to do will give you time to prepare yourselves for next spring!

A reminder – Janet Fontaine will be collecting any gifts of honey that Outyard users may wish to give Queesto for allowing us to put our Outyards on their land. So if you haven’t donated already and wish to do so, please bring some along on Thursday!
