We are almost at the season’s finishing line – but it’s not time to relax quite yet!
- Definitely time to get your quilt boxes on – I went into my hives yesterday and was appalled to find my inner covers soaking wet! I always have at least one more quilt box than I have overwintering hives; that way I can rotate in the dry one, take the damp one inside to dry, then plop it into the next hive, etc…
- If you use insulation during the winter (I do), you may want to put it on. The weather isn’t cold enough yet to need it, but – you know that can change in a heartbeat at this time of year!
- Put a spacer below your quilt boxes for winter supplement, and make up some sugar cake or fondant. I use sugar cake as I’ve found fondant to be Bee Glue after it’s been in the hive a while.
- And don’t forget about those MITES! I don’t know about you, but my hives are still producing brood. Keep an eye on your mite count and make sure you control them!
And MOST importantly, don’t forget about our monthly meeting this Thursday! It is our Annual November Social! Bring an appy to share, either savory or sweet. There is no agenda – it is all social time!
NOTE: There will be no meeting in December! Our next meeting after this one will be Thursday January 8th.
