Our monthly meeting is this Thursday, July 9th , 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Central Saanich Seniors Citizens Association, 1229 Clarke Rd., Brentwood Bay

Due to the recent concerns about AFB notices being received by club members, we have decided for this month’s meeting to forego the usual Beginners’ and Intermediates’ corners and spend the whole meeting together to go over common bee diseases as outlined in the agenda below. It will be an informative meeting, and we hope that you can be there!

From going through my hives, it would appear that swarm season is coming to an end. The amount of drone brood has dropped off, and they’re backfilling some of the drone comb with nectar. So, we can start to breathe a sigh of relief, especially those stalwart members who man the swarm line! Dawn Wilson has an interesting story to tell of a unique swarm collection that you’ll hear at the meeting, too. And I said “start to breathe a sigh of relief” above deliberately. There is still the risk of swarms and even if swarm season is well past, remember there are always exceptions in beekeeping! So keep an eye on your hives, and ensure they’ve got plenty of room!

Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday!
